Trying to keep your home’s lawn looking nice can be a real challenge. Attempting to keep a golf course in pristine condition may seem almost impossible at times. Whether you’re looking to keep a small yard or an entire golf course in good condition, there are a lot of things to consider. This day and age, the name of the game is sustainability. No matter what you’re doing, trying to accomplish the task with as few resources as possible, as well as with environmentally friendly practices, is the trend. Regardless of what you’re doing to try and create a “greener” system for irrigation purposes, Vu-Flow will be able to help you.

USA Today has a very informative article on what five different golf courses across the country have done to try and create a more environmentally friendly system for their irrigation practices. These courses are spread out across the U.S. and each of them has a slightly different twist on what they’re doing in order to “go green.”

One of these golf courses is located in Vu-Flow's home state of Florida.

Streamsong Resort is all about taking a minimalist approach to what they do. They simply don’t do anything that isn’t necessary, which includes their irrigation system. This course doesn’t irrigate anywhere outside the areas of play in an effort to conserve water.

Los Robles Greens Golf Course out in California is also on the list of places that have implemented eco-friendly practices. Back when a severe drought hit the area, the city of a Thousand Oaks asked for the golf course to become environmentally beneficial, prompting a plan to be put into place. Part of the plan involved removing quite a few acres of irrigated turf and replacing it with a lot of naturally drought and pest-resistant native plants. This ultimately has meant less water, fertilizer, pesticides and fossil fuels being used.

Colorado Springs, Colorado is home to another sustainable golf course. The Broadmoor, which consists of three courses, has sophisticated computer-controlled irrigation systems in order to reuse water. These golf courses promote grass, so they don’t spray pesticides among a number of other eco-friendly practices.

Chambers Bay in Tacoma, Washington is the fourth golf course on this list. This course utilizes fescue turf, which requires less water, fertilizers and pesticides. There is also a water treatment plant on the property that takes biosolid waste and turns it into fertilizer that is used around the course.

The final course on the list is Mossy Oak Golf Club in West Point, Mississippi. This one reclaims a lot of water simply through gravity. The native areas around the property are not irrigated as this golf club has a commitment to not overwater. They also use fertilizers that are all organic.

Implementing a system similar to one of these would certainly be great from a sustainability standpoint. If you are looking for ways to be more environmentally friendly for your irrigation practices, the plans put together by these golf courses would be worth reviewing. Getting the most out of your eco-friendly system should also be a priority of yours and that is where Vu-Flow comes in to help you out.

Vu-Flow 2" Screen Filter w/ Poly Mesh Element

No matter what kind of practice you put into place, water will be a part of it as it’s essential to all living organisms. With that in mind, you will want to consider putting some sort of filtration method into your system to keep everything looking nice and as healthy as possible. If you are setting up irrigation for a golf course, this will be especially important in order to keep everything looking fresh.

Vu-Flow offers a number of options in order to help keep your water clean and your land in the best shape possible. No matter what your source is, odds are that the water won’t be completely clean and you’ll want to have something in place to remove the sediment. Not only will sediment over time cause damage to your landscape, but it can also be damaging to your irrigation system itself. If you want to get a lot of life out of everything involved with what you’re doing, water filtration can help you get there.

A number of screen filters are offered as a part of the Vu-Flow product line that will help produce significant results in removing sediment from your water. There are a variety of screens, some coarse and some fine, that you can implement depending on the type and size of sediment you are dealing with. The units themselves also come in a few different inlet and outlet sizes depending on the size pipe you are plugging into. The screen filters are designed to get several years of use before needing replaced and easily come apart for thorough deep cleaning.
